Check your settings in the Client Network Utility. You should be able to
get there by typing "cliconfg" in the Run... dialog box from the Start Menu.
Make sure you've got TCP/IP enabled. You might also try creating an alias
for the server.

Subject: OT: Access 2K and MSDE Connection Problem

Hi all!

Is there anybody out there that has used access 2k to work with SQL Server
(or MSDE)?

This is the problem:

I have installed MSDE on our server and then tried connecting to it through
Access 2k on a workstation.

After I open an existing project I choose File->connection and I get the
error
message "Microsoft Access could not find the database on the server. Verify
that
the database name is correct." Even when I try to create a new project with
an existing database I get
that error.

If I choose to create a new project with a new database it does allow me to
specify the IP of the server and the database does get created in SQL
Server, but I can't access it from this particular workstation (mine of
course) I just keep getting the above error.

If I go to another workstation and do the same thing it connects to the
server with no
problems and I can work with the SQL database in Access 2k.

I have even gone through the registry and trashed anything related to
MSSQLServer, deleted and reinstalled Access and used regclean in the hopes
that it would "clear" the problem. Somehow, somewhere it is remembering a
bad server address that I typed in when I first tried to connect to SQL and
for the life of me I don't know where Access is getting that information
from.

I have poured over the MS knowledge base and the Access help files,
but I have not found the answer yet.

Very frustrated! Any suggestions?

Peter
