To a very short-sighted developer living in the United States perhaps. What
this comment is really saying is, "I'm tired of having to develop multiple
versions, or one less functional version, because the browser developers are
too involved in commercial disputes for any of them to fully implement
standards." If the web is so important, and is to remain as such, web access
cannot be dictated by one company, especially one with a track record like
Microsoft's. I'm not anti-Microsoft but I am anti-monopoly, especially
regarding the primary technology that drives information and economic
exchange today. Imagine if every TV used different technology and required a
different protocol/signal, or every phone, car, etc. Just because it makes
your job seem easier in the short run doesn't mean that there aren't other
serious negative implications that can result from this. Think outside of
the box which has been created by or for you, there's a whole world out
there.
