Try something like:
temp = parseInt(maxlimit, 10) - field.value.length;
countfield.value = temp;

Thanks Larry and Kwang. Neither suggestion worked. Maybe I should clarify
what's "not working." The part that isn't working is the change in the value
of the countfield. So, something's wrong with this part:
else
countfield.value = maxlimit - field.value.length;
Does that ring any bells for anyone?
