This is true. However, considering the pervasiveness of "piracy"
(cracks, warez, serials distribution) you might as well try to find a
technically superior solution. It's illegal to steal a car, no matter
what kind of lock it has. However, would you drive a car around that
had a one digit "combination" to start the ignition, or would you prefer
a unique key? (not a perfect analogy I know, but you get the gist)

In order to avoid any confusion on the issue, I am a firm supporter of
copyright laws and intellectual property (though I do believe that the
DMCA is a poor implementation). Even though I am aware of
"circumvention measures", as a developer, I am a firm supporter of
liscensing fees. I have purchased CF applications in the past, both
encrypted and unencrypted. (However, I rarely will purchase encrypted
solutions, as there's usually something I want to change. You want me
to pay $1500 for a message board, but still display your logo? Yeah
right.)

Encrypting code grants one addition protection under chapture 12 of the
Copyright Act. Encryption would be considered a software protection
mechcanism and circumvention could result in procesuction under the NET
act
($500,000 fine and 3 years?) or additional civil action beside straight
copyright infringement.

Cheers,
Bill
