Client variables

I have my pages set up with client variables. I need to change my main
client variable.  When I change my queries/cfsets to the new variable it
doesn't work.  Do I need to make the change somewhere else to?
What I have done thus far:
Query for login
Cfset New CLIENT variable
Go to new page
Query using new client variable
Results: no output when I do a cfoutput.
Any ideas?
