According to common knowledge, It is believed to be a fairly inefficient tag. However, common knowledge is not always correct and I cannot speak from experience. As a point of reference, it is also 'common knowledge' that using cfsetting (with enableCfOutputOnly = "yes") to suppress whitespace is more efficient than cfsilent. Once again, I can't speak from first hand experience.
