Take a look at a custom tag CFX_CSVtoQuery in the Allaire developer
exchange. Perhaps this will help, works well for us.

Subject: Re: reading a text file into a query??

Is this a text file you are getting from elsewhere, or are you trying
 to
just use a text file as a datasource?

I mean, is CFHTTP really the way to go get the txt file? would CFFILE
work? Would the ASCII TXT ODBC driver work?

If you want me to look at the text file and the code to see if you ar
e
just doing something a little wrong, email me off list, and I'll chec
k it
out for you. It may just be a semi-obvious bug that keeps it from
working, rather than a real systemic problem.

Please DO NOT send the data or code to the list, but if its under 2 M
B or
so, feel free to send your CFM and .txt files to my email, and I'll t
ry to
get it working here.
