makes sense. I wanted to something like this a little while back.

for web logfiles - I wanted to get something that would scan a directory for
new files. update a log, and import and process files that haven't yet been
imported.

It wasn't too bulky so I just manually imported and processed the files, but
something like this should be able to be done relatively easy. I have done
similar things in Access (scan directory and import all the files in the
directory). But I didn't spend any time to get MSDE to work for me with DTS.

so any insight is appreciated.

Eric

You are probably correct.

Unfortunately to the best of my knowledge there is no way to change the
input filename. I have run into this before.

One of the things you can as part of the DTS is run a batch file, use the
Execute Process task.

I would create a batch file that would make a copy of the file with name
you have selected for your input tasks.

At the end of the DTS delete the copy.

I have done this before with both text files and Excel spread sheets. It
works pretty well as long as you have the disk space to hold the copy.
