Jason Powers (Fig Leaf Software) and I put together a presentation for this
Fall's Macromedia Developer's conference on CF's implementation on Regular
Expression that is geared toward the beginner.

You can download the PowerPoint file at:
http://www.cfugorama.com/cfugorama/codelibrary/Regular-Expressions.cfm

And there is also a version on the DevCon cd that was sent out last week.

Learning Regular Expressions is not a particularly well-defined task. I
found that once I figured out the syntax that was all I needed. Actually
writing complex RegExes can be time consuming, but luckily CF Studio is one
of the easiest tools to test REs in.

The completely excellent book, Professional ColdFusion 5.0 on Wrox press has
about 5 pages on REs in chapter 7. I'd suggest picking up several copies
for work and home and valentines day gifts. Not that I'd profit from that,
of course, but Simon's in India and SOMEONE's gotta keep the promotion
machine going. ;)
