Doesn't have to relate to a database, I tend to use XML as a means of
communicating with other sites and or systems in a somewhat standard 
way.

An example would be pulling news items from somehwere like moreover.com

You don't have to store the data in a database once it's been returned, 
so I
guess the answer to your question is that XML is a way of describing 
data,
therefore each XML packet describes it's own contents and is not 
necessarily
related to anything other than it's own contents.
