Groove ROCKS. I have done a bunch of projects using Groove as the main contact medium, and it works great. Sure, it's not perfect, but it's better than building your own tool. Loads of really useful functionality, esp. the document sharing, shared browing, and threaded discussion. If you're working on a project that has people with dissimilar schedules on it, you should try it.
