I normally am reluctant to deploy client-side Java applets as part of a larger application... too many problems with security, cross- browser/platform compatibility, portability, performance, etc.
However, sometimes i need to include things like wp, ss, image manipulation or draw capability. Server-based solutions currently available leave much to be desired. I recently came across JavaWebStart at <http://java.sun.com/products/javawebstart/> On the surface, this appears to address my concerns about client-side Java Apps. In addition there may be a (potentially) far greater benefit to ASPs and their customers by making their applications to a broader set of customers (and developers). I have made several false-starts with client-side Java solutions... and don't want to go down that road again... Yet, the potential is very tempting... Anyone of you have any experience with JavaWebStart or have any thoughts about it?
