Ok that sounds very weird; I use something similar with client vars to decide if you are logged in or not and have no problems. The only thing that can come to mind at the moment is that it might be setup to handle client vars for the registry. If this is the case it might be that the registry is full.
Other than that I can only think of something else might be resetting it.
