One attempt I made was to use an ActiveX control on a 'splash' page.  The
control had a call to a Windows API function to get the user's NT username.
The username was then submitted to a validation page.  The only problem with
this was that the control required the user's browser security settings to
be set to medium-low to stop warning alerts from appearing.  I'd prefer an
alternative approach.
