Oh dear...realised I'd missed off the type="application/x-shockwave-flash" in the embed.....think I'd better go and lie down! Still very bizarre that it worked locally though!
Thanks for you help, Kath -----Original Message----- From: Haggerty, Michael A. There are many things that could be going wrong. The first thing I suggest you do: check the placement of the file on the server and make sure you can call it via an absolute path. If this does not work (I expect the problem is something else), I would need to know the following: 1) What specific client browser / OS is the movie not coming up in? What version of Flash is installed? 2) What Web server / version is your local server running? How about the live server? 3) Please post a copy of the HTML calling the movie. 4) If the movie does anything cool, for instance, loading variables or establishing socket connections, please detail all functions. That will give me something to work with... Any ideas? Kath -----Original Message----- From: Haggerty, Michael A. [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: 18 March 2002 13:45 To: CF-Talk Subject: RE: OT : Flash & CF Mac plugin problems Katherine; Detecting Flash on Mac can really be hit or miss. To this day, I have not found a reliable means of detecting it on Mac Netscape 3.x; on some computers it works, and on some computers it doesn't. What I do to get around this is include a small (18px x 18px) Flash movie at the bottom of my entrance page. All the movie does is forward users to a page that sets a client variable saying Flash is present. If Flash is not available on the machine, the movie does not run and the Flash never shows. This is as close to reliable as I have been able to get, however, I would be interested in hearing how other developers get around this issue. We have a website which on the first page, based on a flash plugin detect script, selects whether to pull in a flat html menu, or a flash one. On our local version it works on all browsers, however, once uploaded to the live site Mac browsers select the flash menu but then brings up a 'click here to download plugin' box instead of loading the flash file. The file is being directed through ColdFusion variables, but I cannot understand how it is working locally but not live. The CF is only stating which on-state to show on the menu, and is currently using only one variable, i.e. nothing really complex....has anyone come across anything like this before?
