True, although you may run into such a limitation with just about any
software. ColdFusion is more cross-platform than most, though.

   I remember it, vaguely.
Maybe there is a market out there for another one? If I build it will
Macromedia pay me enough money to retire? I'll have it ready by January. :
ha, ha: J/K!

A product like that would be killer for all those marketing folks who
want to put their web sites on CDs for Trade Shows... or companies who
want to give their salesmen / dealers the ability to carry around with them
a searchable product catalog (and don't want to rely on Internet
connections at client-site visits )

I believe the analogy is quite dissimilar. For both Acrobat and Flash,
the saying is "Develop using [Flash /Acrobat], everyone can view the end
result by downloading a free player." I can't imagine developers ( or
users ) being won over by "Develop in ColdFusion, everyone will be able to
run your code locally." That is not the nature of ColdFusion.

Anyway, I'm getting off track. My original intention was to say that one
should choose the language to meet the application, not the other way
around. The product you described would be hard to implement in
ColdFusion, but very easy to write in a Lotus Notes / Domino. Why
re-invent the wheel?
