March 27, 2002: Kevin Towes and Byron Bignell here to give you the

are only 5 weeks away from the CFNorth Developers Conference. Its seems
like yesterday that we came up with the idea. You only have *6 DAYS

$200 (CDN) ~ $123 (US). This Tuesday will be your absolute final day to
register using this discount. On Wednesday April 3rd, the price will go

   http://www.CFNorth.com/Register/

For our American friends remember, Canada has a really LOW exchange
rate offering about $0.63 on our dollar! ($100 CDN = $63 US). You will
NEVER see a conference offering as much CFNorth for as little.

:::: FLASH MX AND COLDFUSION MX (formally known as NEO)
-----------------------------------------------------
There is no doubt -- it is a really good time to know ColdFusion. Since
our last newsletter, Macromedia has released the much-anticipated new
release of Flash MX. Macromedia has also released the mention of the
next version of ColdFusion. Previously referred to as the lead
character from the movie the Matrix NEO has been formally announced
as ColdFusion MX.

This is a direct Quote from the March 4th Press Release from Macromedia:

Macromedia ColdFusion MX, which can be
used in conjunction with Microsoft .NET,
Java application servers, and web services,
will provide developers with the fastest and
easiest way to create rich applications with
Macromedia Flash MX. In addition, developers
will be able to use a new server gateway technology
to build Macromedia Flash applications that work
directly with leading application servers and
    web services.

http://www.macromedia.com/macromedia/proom/pr/2002/flash_mx_apps.html

What does this mean and why, as ColdFusion developers, are we paying so
much attention to it? Using the new server gateway technology
ColdFusion MX can now be leveraged even more to work with Flash MX
applications.. Ok, its a bit vague, but trust me when I say that the
CFNorth conference will really make it all make sense and will
definitely leave you stunned with the possibilities of what these two
technologies can provide.
~

:::: EXHIBITORS & Give-A-Ways
---------------------------------------------------
CFNorth will have over 12 exhibit booths and a tonne of give-aways.
Exhibitor booths are a fantastic way for you to really explore what this
ColdFusion community is made up of. ColdFusion consultants, cool
Developer tools, applications that you can incorporate into your own
products, lead authors of many of the ColdFusion books will all
available for you to interact and talk with.

If you are on the borderline of choosing an application server (such as
ColdFusion) then talking with these people will give you a great
perspective onto what ColdFusion can offer your organization. Its not
just about ColdFusion, remember. ColdFusion is the foundation for a lot
of awesome products and services, and these exhibitors will demonstrate
the real power of what ColdFusion is all about.

If you have been to any of the ColdFusion User Group meetings, you know
we always give away lots of stuff. Well, here is a preview of just some
of the give-a-ways from some of our sponsors, that you could win, just
for coming!

:::: BEYOND THE LECTURES
Did you know that with your conference registration, we are providing
you with lunches, breakfasts, breaks, and a dinner party!

Each day of the conference, you will receive a breakfast courtesy of
Pearson PTR Canada the publishers of many ColdFusion and Flash books.
You will also receive two full course sit-down lunches plus lots of
coffee juice and muffins throughout the day! On Saturday night, we have
rented busses that will take everyone from the Conference to VINNIES
Nightclub in downtown Toronto. VINNIES is a very fun place to spend a
night. Your conference pass will give you access to lots of free food
and beverage tickets. VINNIES is known for its video-game facilities
with HUNDREDS of video game and virtual reality experiences. We have
the place all night, but if you decide to explore Torontos nightclub
scene, we will be right in the heart of everything, there are with out a
doubt over 30 nightclubs in the area ranging from Jazz to HipHop to
Club. Its Saturday night, and Toronto really knows how to kick up its
heels!

We will have a buss departing from VINNIES all night that will get you
back to the hotel so you wont have to drink and drive (another good
reason to stay at the hotel).

:::: HOW THE TOPIC TRACKS WORK
We have had many questions about how the Session TRACKS work. Its
simple. Each of the 35 sessions has been categorized into 5 groups:
-ColdFusion Bootcamp (exploring the Basics of ColdFusion)
-ColdFusion BestPractices (exploring project management and project
development)
-ColdFusion Advanced Techniques: (taking ColdFusion to the next level)

-Flash MX for CF Developer (how to leverage ColdFusion within Flash
MX)
  -FuseBox (Methodologies for coding practices)

You are free to take any 8 sessions you like. If you are interested in
the basics of ColdFusion, then you might select to take sessions
categorized as ColdFusion BootCamp. If you are a project manager,
then sessions inside the Best Practices track would serve you best.

You can mix and match and take what ever you are interested in. We have
a lot of choice, it will be a difficult decision. The schedule of
events will be available after April 5th on the website.
