Does anyone know precisely how the "unique visitors" statistic is determined in web trends? Is it the number of unique IP addresses that hit the site?
Looking through the log file, the only thing I could find to differentiate between users is the client IP address, but that is imperfect as users behind a proxy would be counted as the same person.
