Dave: Ahh, I see. Then it shouldn't be a problem for us. The client just informed me of another difference between the servers with the problem and the other servers that are all working ok. The ones with the problem are running NT 4 enterprise edition and not regular Server edition. From looking around I had noticed that people with the 404 error were running NT as opposed to maybe Win 2k or something else. I couldn't see how that could be a problem but if they were using enterprise edition instead of server then perhaps there is something there. Maybe a different flavor of IIS.
The server vs enterprise edition seems to be a more likely culprit to me than cluster cats. When you hit the domain, all cluster cats does is send you to one of the servers in the cluster. If it sends you to a server and you request index.cfm then no problem. But if you do index.cfm/var1/ you get a 404 error. That has got to be the web server.. yes? Well, I'm advising the client to go to NT server and then we'll see what happens. Thanks for all the help Dave, if you come up with any ideas, possible hitches or see anything wrong with my reasoning here please let me know. I've also seen > mention that Service Pack 5 causes it as well. The SP6a issue to which you're referring shouldn't make a difference for search-engine-safe URLs like you're building. The specific issue was that you couldn't use "fake" filenames within a URL, such as this: http://www.myserver.com/myfile.cfm/somefile.csv because IIS would attempt to run somefile.csv. However, I don't think it treats "var1" and "var2" the same way - it doesn't expect them to be files. I'm not 100% certain of this, but that's what I seem to recall. > The thing is though... it works in dev and on our test admin > server just fine, and they are all running IIS with SP6a! > The only difference with the two servers where it doesn't > work is that they are clustered together with cluster cats. What happens if you go to one of the cluster members directly using the appropriate URL?
