Jim, I'm running CF5 very successfully first on RH7.1 and now 7.2 with apache and postgreSQL ... cfinstall handles it very well.
However my similar problem arose when I used the RH GUI tool to make any configuration changes to apache. It ended up removing the cfinstall changes.
