This is in response to Jason Dowdell regarding the performance of Advances.Com (aka Advances.NET) as a ColdFusion hosting provider. Our company has been providing CF hosting services since 1996, and we use CF for all of our own internal development work as well.
You say that we don't have enough experience to keep a CF application running fast enough on a web server. That is just simply not true, we have lots of experience, and the experience of the company does not have anything to do with how fast a CF application runs on a server. All of our servers are quad-cpu systems with at least 1GB of RAM, RAID5 disk arrays, multiple power supplies and multiple NICs. The CPU utlization is typically in the 10% to 30% range, so there is major headroom available at all times on all servers. If any of our hosting clients ever experience a speed issue with the performance of their web site for any reason, we promptly investigate whether there is some unknown issue with the particular web server. We always do whatever is necessary to make sure our clients are happy with the speed of their hosted site, even if we have to move the site to a different new server. Jason, did you ever contact Advances.Com and complain about speed? We would always appreciate and welcome the chance to correct a problem if the problem is brought to our attention. We monitor all of our servers around the clock to ensure that their performance is consistent with generally acceptable performance standards.
