The only downside being that the CFMX license will make the cost of the software prohibitive. Imagine tacking on thousands of dollars to the price of your development.
It's possible, though not likely. Bill >>> [EMAIL PROTECTED] 5/1/02 9:26 AM >>> Not really a question, just some thoughts and musings... One of the neatest (and understated) features of the Neo beta and the Preview CFMX release is the inclusion of a "standalone" web server (along with the jvm & jre). This allows MM customers to download and install a complete, operational CF system without having to install prerequisite/corequisite software, service packs, etc... Simplify, simplify! There were many installation issues in the beta, but MM will work these out. This "encapsulation" was done on all the supported platforms [sigh]! What is exciting to me is the potential ability to distribute/install a completely self-contained package on a CD or a kiosk. With proper licensing, I could include my CF app on a CD along with all that is needed to install or run it (the CFMF package) on any of the supported OSes. Also included on the CD would be the data necessary to run the app, along with the RDBMS (if open source) or special CF tags to emulate dbs with flat files (already available). There have been several threads, in the past, that discussed the desirability of this. So, it would be relatively easy to put together a complete application package (operational or evaluation), burn a CD (in reality multiple CDs or DVD) and send it off to the end user! With a simple (if somewhat lengthy) install, the customer would be up and running! A variation, would be to install this encapsulated system on a kiosk where the app could run standalone or, periodically, as an intelligent client to a remote server (or both). This could be a real boon to developers, in general, and ASPs in particular!
