If you're doing any serious amount of traffic through SSL, I'd strongly recommend that you get some sort of hardware SSL acceleration. It makes a big difference. In addition, in a clustered server environment, you can often offload SSL processing onto a front-end box, which reduces the amount of work each individual server has to do, plus you only need one cert! There are plenty of good hardware vendors providing this stuff.
