One of the ideas I had was to take all the messages in a single thread and write them out to a flat file. That flat file would be indexed in verity and a search would call it up. A new message to the thread would cause the file to be rewritten. This would save a lot of reads from the DB when ever anyone wanted to see a thread/message. Think of the old forums for layout (which I liked).
