I guess it being free is the major bonus. Someone else said that they're fed up of losing clients who don't want to change their host. I'm aware of stuff like built-in image manipulation that makes PHP attractive, but with CFMX I imagine you'd have a hard time making a case for PHP over CF, if you disregard cost. Once you factor cost in, you just need to assess each situation, what would be best in each case.
