Doh me!! Thanks Dave for pointing that out, however the code sample isnt whats causing me the problem... I'm still investigating the real code, but it has an if isdefined checking for existence of a checkbox form field...which does in fact work...cos all other items in that if statement is still processed correctly.
obviously there is something else causing my problem, but thanks for helping me rule out what I thought was the problem before.
