Strictly speaking, even services run as users - within the context of a user account or generic security context which has specific user rights. So, I'm guessing that you mean that it be run as an application rather than a service. It's a subtle difference, perhaps, but I think it's worth pointing out. > I've seen references to an app available which allows you to > run such programs as services. Anyone know of such an > application? If you have any of the Windows Resource Kits, they come with a program called srvany.exe, which lets you run an application as a service. If you don't have a Resource Kit, you can get the NT 4 version (which probably works fine on any version of Windows) here: ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/bussys/winnt/winnt-public/reskit/nt40/i386/srvany_x8 6.exe There's also a guide to using it with Serv-U here: http://www.technogroup.co.jp/ftpservu/srvany.htm However, if possible, I'd recommend that you get a newer version of your FTP server which will be able to run as a service.
