Neil, not sure if you have solved the problem but just to let you know:
there's a issue with Norton Anti-virus (and maybe with others Norton
softs such as PCAnywhere) and CFStudio (all versions), I'm not sure if
the same happens with DWMX. In CFStudio the NAV produces a delay when
saving files (or opening large ones) with names less than 4 chars length
(!?!). Yes, it's very strange but it happens. I found a workaround
setting my NAV to use SmartScan instead of scanning all files (and
configured it not to scan .cfm files). Now everything works fine,
including DWMX.

Matt Brown had some possible reasons for this on his blog...

http://radio.weblogs.com/0106884/

Here's the excerpt:

One of the complaints that comes up is the speed of Dreamweaver. On some
systems, the speed of doing anything is very very slow. Well the most
common reason for that is realtime virus protection. Most applications
are built from one file or exe that does all the work. Dreamweaver
though is built like a skeleton with thousands of files that are used in
specific instances to fill it out. This layer of extensible files is
great in a lot of ways, but for a realtime virus protection utility,
they all have to be scanned when they are used. This makes Dreamweaver
slow to a crawl. One way to get around this is to check your virus
protection utility and set it not to check files in the Dreamweaver
configuration folder. This will speed you up. The cost is that there
would then be one directory of your machine that would not be protected.
You have to make the call, more speed or more safety.

HTH...
