All very true... There was a version (when the sorted the package out for win2k) that you had to avoid using on win nt, but I think the latest itteration of the MDAC package is pretty stable on all platforms. One thing COMCheck will do is tell you all the version of all the MDAC files you have on your server as well as pointing problem files, registry entries etc. If you get too many different versions of files, too many registry key errors, too many problem files (usually through incorrect expected files) MDAC will be flaky and you need to get the whole lot updated.
