Todd, I was a presenter back in 2000 in DC. All the rooms I presented in or attended were well mice'd and I am pretty certain hearing what was said was clear in all parts of the rooms. As Ben said the rooms are usually of many different sizes. I can't think of a better place to meet the luminaries and see what is planned for the future. I really enjoyed the ones I went to and if time permits intend to go this year, (we're just very busy at present).
