As a minimum, reasonable part of that fee will be a licensing cost to the ASX for live prices.

Real-time stock price information is very valuable.

We dont use their website facility - but a dedicated server that we host along with a dedicated client application.

But - basically - it isn't cheap.

If you just want 20 minute delayed prices, you can get that information directly from the ASX (although they dont have a webservice, you can just call a web page and parse the information off that - a number of people out there do this type of thing).

Any provider is called Paritech.  They may have some different facilities for more attractive rates.
