Surely there must be, just look at the gmail attach a file, it doesn't look like a browse button, but just a link.

Pretty sure there isn't, I've tried to do that in the past. They've really locked down the functionality of the FILE input field, to avoid _javascript_ hackers randomly uploading files from your HD to the internet.
