 Connecting to SQL 2005 with EM is not supported.   http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms174190.aspx http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms173738.aspx   I would suggest installing the SQL Server Management Studio that ships with SQL server 2005.
