SOLVED - another one of those DER!!-Slap-the-forehead-moments It was as Haikal said - staring me in the face but I couldnt see it. What i needed ot learn was what the significance of the '@P5' was, and now I know. It was parameter 5 causing the problem - comma missing from the end of parameter 4.
DER! Good god thats about SQL page 2 stuff. Back to the starts of the book for me. Thanks for your help folks anyway.
