Hi Ryan, We use cfftp heavily.. and query directories with thousands of files and have found post CF5 cfftp to be pretty good.. Though some of the error messages can be pretty vague at times.. especially when trying to configure a new connection.
I agree with Bjorn.. check the directories exist and that you have permissions.. if all else fails, try connecting via the command line to see if you can get any more info..
