LylaCaptcha is very good, and is used by Ray Camden in his blogCFC.

Highly recommended.

Subject: [cfaussie] Alagad Captcha and the session scope

Alagad Captcha seems to rely on the session scope. if you set
sessionmanagement="false" then you don't get an image.

I've posted an enquiry on the Alagad site about this and I'm waiting
for the reply, but I'm wondering if anyone else has got Alagad Captcha
to work with sessionmanagement set to false.

BTW, while googling for CF compatible CATCHA utilities I came across
an opensource thingo called LylaCaptcha, but it was version 0.2 Alpha
so I am reluctant to use it on a high traffic public site. I did
notice the name Mark Mandel on the credits. Any comments on the
stability of LylaCaptcha Mark?
