Barry, Exactly, and I had this discussion with Macromedia 3-4 years ago and they did not seem to care. Their attitude was sales is going strong and that is all that they cared about.
We here are needing J2EE developers, and we are struggling on that issue so it's not just Coldfusion. But the question is: What comes first the Chicken or the Egg. And I would be all for mentoring new people, but we also need the work to do so as well. Currently in the process of fighting for my future as a Coldfusion developer, because I am being asked to be trained into J2EE development at my work. But the huge problem is the cost of Coldfusion, and we have a massive project on the go at the moment that would have been great to have written in CF but the cost for setting up the Infastructure for an Enterprise solution meant we did not even consider coldfusion for the work. And its this type of thing that is killing the technology. That is the problem... Andrew Scott Senior Coldfusion Developer Aegeon Pty. One thing in favour in this not happening is that everyone else is having grief finding people too (just try and find some Java programmers). but as current CF programmers move on to other areas (management, other languages, Flex, etc) one wonders where "new blood" will come from. Watch the increase of poaching over the coming months as things get tighter. Anyone reading this: suggest a "train a graduate" program to your boss. Perhaps a mentoring program. eh, my 2c.
