A very positive start to the new CF User Group in western Sydney last night. We had 11 people there, from 4 different companies, including a few who live out west but work in the city.
We had a couple of presentations - one about CF8 and the other about encapsulation and CFCs, and discussed a few organisational things. We appointed another organiser, so the three of us organising the group are: Rod Higgins, Webdaemon Pty Ltd, Mike Kear, AFP Webworks Pty Ltd, Fawad Sami, ICLP Loyalty We talked about the aims of the group - one of which is to help develop a core of new ColdFusion developers who either live or work (or both) in Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains. We know there are many CF developers in this area, most of whom toil away on their own, and we want to be able to provide a resource for those developers and their potential clients to help grow the ColdFusion business in this area. The NSW Government's Office of Western Sydney says there are about 1500 IT companies in Western Sydney and we think ColdFusion ought to be considered a significant part of that. Western Sydney and Blue Mountains is a much bigger economic base than many people give it credit for, which represents opportunities for CF Developers at all experience levels. Next month, we'll be showing an AIR application and having a presentation about some aspect of the current CF release. Thanks to all the people who offered support and/or encouragement to us in getting this group started.
