We built a shipping calculator for our online auction engine that handles AusPost, Air Express, TNT, fastway couriers and finally fixed priced shipping all items posted on the site have weight and dimensions recorded - Depending on the postcode of the sender and receiver the weight and dimensions are looked up via a module (all records are in various SQL tables - Aust post has a nice PDF to work out their formula's for shipping - AustPost database is downloadable) and are then the results are displayed to the user (the originator of the item can select which shipping options he will allow and the receiver can select from the various shipping methods allowed)
Naturally the modules have been revised several times under live fire to handle volumes like 10,000 items shipped per month One of our sites has looked at combining the weights and shipping dimensions to allow for bundling - it works for IT products - its always a issue with say 1 x 22in LCD and 1 x CDROM box is it 2 parcel or 1 parcel ( an you place the CDROM inside the LCD box?) thing to look out for - Auspost change every 6 months (without must notice) - Road transport can change without notice- - fuel levy charged by Road transport - min account fees charged by month - can averaged across no of items shipped (need history) there is quite a few other gotcha's we have discovered over the last 5 years with shipping the huge range of items handled by a auction site within Aust. I'm working with a calculator provided by AUSPOST, it only allows me to pass one item to calculate costs of, which means I somehow need to add up all the dimensions of the products ordered and pass that over, which becomes a bit of a pain and probably error prone. Ultimately I'd like to pass all dimensions of the the items seperately and get one calculated price back, is anyone using something like this? -- http://www.clickfind.com.au <http://www.clickfind.com.au> The new Australian search engine for businesses, products and services -- *** http://www.clickfind.com.au The new Australian search engine for businesses, products and services *** Virtual and Dedicated Servers with registered version of ColdFusion from $350 a month *** ColdFusion licenses at the lowest price --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "cfaussie" group.
