I hate the how much is Windows argument.

We run ColdFusion on top of Windows so we pay for both, as do most people
running ColdFusion.

It really depends how you decide to compare. Service Provider pricing for
Windows Server Standard is around $40 per CPU per month with instant upgrade
rights for any new server version. This is "die" pricing so cores don't
count. So when you look at .Net versus an application server like CF,
you're comparing something you get with the monthly fee already (.net) with
something that you need to buy and install on top of the OS costs.

It's also not about the technology costs for the end-game hosting of the
solution, I still firmly believe that CF out performs .Net in terms of speed
to market for development, so what you really need to do is weight up the
costs of developing a solution in both languages and then add on the ongoing
costs for say 3 years. That way you are comparing the cost savings of rapid
development in CF with the cost savings of hosting in .Net.

Cheers
Bruce

actually Scott, you may have hit on something that is 100% this thread.

CF8 ent on Linux toe-to-toe with ASP.NET on Win Server2003

I haven't a clue what the answer to that is, dollar-wise, but it could
an interesting comparison with perhaps CF8 Enterprise still being
competitively priced....?

anyone wanna work it out?
