Thanks for you suggestion, Andrew,  I woudl have thought so too,  but
wrapping that code around this line;

 <cfset BeanFactory =
createObject("component","coldspring.beans.DefaultXmlBeanFactory")/>

just gives the same result.   A vague error message saying:

The method getClass was not found in component
C:\websites\ybunp9\coldspring\beans\DefaultXmlBeanFactory.cfc.
