If the email is a google hosted mail account, the answer is no you don't see these in outlook. I am assuming you are using outlook, if you mail.google.com/hosted/domainname.com and login you will see that your message is actually sitting there. Outlook seems to think that it is smarter than you. I haven't tried this in thunderbird as yet, or any other mail client application to come to think of it.
