Openfire is a great product... its just a grown up version of Jive/ WildFire. But that said, we typically use gTalk for all of our instant messengering to CF stuff. It's XMPP and so out of the box on CF. We send all our time sheet entries, and contact enquiries etc to our Intranet/CRM throughout the day -- works a treat.
