The thing is, that is an ideal place to do it anyway.  If you are doing an
actual redirect then the client needs to load the https to use the ssl
certificate anyway so whats the diff if apache does it or cf does it?  And
yes apache runs on windows, but not every one has access to the config file
to put in the rewrite so let cf handle it.

I don't think Steve meant it in that manner, some people are aware that it
would be better to do it at the upper tier. But not everyone has that luxury
either.

You really don't want this at the ColdFusion level because it creates
extra load on the application server.

Apache can inherently handle a LOT more load than ColdFusion Server,
so if you can do it there you really should. Why make CF process
requests when the web server can do it?

Some say the performance "hit" (when using CF) is negligible, but when
the small things start to matter (when traffic increases) trust
me...these things make a big difference.
