Anyway, I do believe this is controlled on the google groups page, whose URL is always offered at the bottom of each message: http://groups.google.com/group/cfaussie?hl=en If you are logged in there (with whatever google account whose email address is where you're receiving the group messages), you'll see an option on the right for "edit my membership", and on that page there's an input field asking, "What nickname do you want people in this group to see?" I'm pretty sure that would control what you're looking for.
