This is where the difference lies in a proper IDE ;o) A 'project' is necessary, so that it knows things about what you are developing, such as paths to where SVN is, or how you have set up your unit tests, or even which server you are using.
If you try and use Eclipse / ColdFusion Builder like Homesite, you're going to be in for a rough time, as that's not how it was designed. Come to the dark side, it's nice and warm over here with our projects :oD I swear you will like it.
