Hi Barry, I looked in to doing this circa 2007. I'd suggest trying to wrap it in a web service. Not sure if the Solr Service would be a better alternative.
Instead of trying to explain it, here's Jason Delmore's response to me verbatim; "The license we have for CF only allows one CF server to connect to one verity server. Verity (now Autonomy), sells an add-on that allows you to connect multiple servers to one Verity server. You can however install verity on a separate server (still only connecting from one CF server). Maybe an uber search server with just one CF front end that all of the other CF servers hand search services off to (on the CF side… not the verity side..) is something you would want to do.
