We understand that you have to carefully weigh up the cost vs benefit of attending an event such as MXDU and we have gone out of our way to make it attractive as possible to potential attendees.Took a look at the mdxu site today (bloody hell that conference is expensive! $700 each!!!!! I guess they don't want any small businesses to send anyone)
Firstly it is worth noting that this is not a Macromedia marketing event and cannot be written off as a business development activity that may be somehow recouped through future product sales. MXDU is designed to be a chance for Australian developers to get together (in their own country!) and hear from some of the chief architects and leading proponents of the current Macromedia product range. One way I guess to look at it is if you learn just one thing that saves you a day of development then you will have made up the cost of the conference right there and then.
The second thing to say is that compared to other conferences we are actually very cheap. For example the 2-day IQPC (www.iqpc.com.au) conferences that they hold every few weeks are around $2,500 for a two day conference and from all indications are regularly sold out! The Gartner conference recently held in Brisbane was around $3,000. The Dimension Data Forum held each year is about the same price.
The final thing to say is that it is not cheap to run an event like MXDU and the risks to us (a private company) are substantial should attendance not be what we hope. We decided to run MXDU because we love the Macromedia products and wanted to give the Australian developer community the opportunity to get up close and personal with the head Macromedians without having fork over several thousand dollars to visit DevCon in the States.
I hope this information is helpful and we certainly hope that with this background you find it worthwhile to come to MXDU. We are constantly updating the site and the speakers list is growing... We would love to see you there!
Best regards,
