Thanks for your info Geoff. I can assure you I don't go to any $2500 conferences! As a one-man business here on Struggle Avenue (just round the corner from the Struggle Street where all the fancy flyboys live) $700 isnt a bank-breaker, but it's not trivial either. Remember that the cost isn't just $700 for a one-man business. It's also 2 days lost revenue and incidentals - travel, meals, drinks etc.
I'm not saying the cost is unreasonable or exorbitant, but it is quite a whack for a one-man or two-man business. I have to do some hard thinking over the next few days whether a MX conference is something I need to spend that amount of money on. No one has any time at all for those of us still in the CF5 world any more. It's pretty hard to get advice or help about CF5 things. Yet I'd suggest the vast majority of shared hosting is still on CF5. Anyway, maybe I'll go maybe not. Depends on how the dice lands. The Gartner conference recently held in Brisbane was around $3,000. The Dimension Data Forum held each year is about the same price. The final thing to say is that it is not cheap to run an event like MXDU and the risks to us (a private company) are substantial should attendance not be what we hope. We decided to run MXDU because we love the Macromedia products and wanted to give the Australian developer community the opportunity to get up close and personal with the head Macromedians without having fork over several thousand dollars to visit DevCon in the States.
