Check out EwebeditPro & EwebeditPro+XML at www.ektron.com. Ewebeditpro says somethings about supporting xhtml but I don't know if that means read or write or both. The FAQ page in question is blank. EwebeditPro+XML says it supports schema & DTD validation so that should work. We have used older version a few times and they work pretty well, not sure about xhtml though.
Another option may be to look at http://tidy.sourceforge.net, from what I have heard it does a damn good job of cleaning bad html & converting html to xhtml. Its a command line tool so maybe get soEditor to post the data and then run tidy over it. Oh and its free, open source & being actively developed (last release was 3rd Feb).
